Southeast High School Blog 1 Post 4 Yadira Torres

This building is my High school building which I attended for all four year from 2012 to 2016. Most of these memories bring both good and bad ones. When I first saw this building, I knew that it would mean new experiences and that it was the last step before I went to college and became the first in the family to get a degree and a diploma.

Whenever I look at this building, the only good memory I have is my success of being the first in the family to receive a high school diploma. However, most of my memories of this place are bad ones because my senior year was not a pleasant one. I lost a lot during this year, dealt with difficulties besides the ones that everyone goes through like college applications and scholarships, as well as graduations requirements. When I see this building now, I just get reminded of all the painful memories that I went through in high school and I just feel relief that I am no longer in this stage of my life. That no matter what I went through I was able to overcome it and it has made me stronger. However, if someone ever asked me if I would ever want to go back to high school I would not have to think about my response for long because my answer would be no

Sacred Heart Catholic Church Blog 1 Post 3

I have been going to Sacred Heart Church since I was a baby when my mother had to carry me in her arms so that I could listen to the words of God and follow in the path of light. This building just brings good memories to me because this is the place where my family members have gotten married, where we held baptisms, and this is also the church where I celebrated my Quinceanera.

I do not remember the first time I saw this building because I was a baby when that first happened and have bad memory. This building itself though has always made me feel safe and welcomes. I have never had a bad feeling in this building nor a bad memory. I have enjoyed all my experiences and festivals conducted at this church and I would not trade it for the world.

Cale Hayes – Blog 1 – Price Hall

The first building I chose is Price Hall. Both the interior and exterior of the building is both grand, and makes me feel at home. The walk to the main entrance is majestic with the flower beds, the fountain, and the benches surrounding everything. The interior has a similar feel, with the high ceilings, and spacious lounges and classrooms. However, there is also a part of the building that feels like home. Whether it be the lounges that are filled with comfortable couches and chairs to study, or the classrooms that are more interactive, it doesn’t feel as much as a dull classroom as it does an active learning environment.

This building is important to me because this is where I spend the majority of my time on campus. Since I am a business major, it is rare that I get to leave this building both now, and in the future of my college career. It is because of this fact that I think it is important that the building is best suited to help not only me, but all of its students succeed, which is what I think it is designed to do.

The Golden Dome Blog 1 Post 2 Yadira Torres

When I was little, we would go to the Asian distract to buy lbs. of fish which we would fry in our backyard and invited over family members. Even though the gesture of spending quality time with family was a lovely experience there was one thing that stood out during our drive to and back from buying the fish. The golden dome on NW 23rd street; which looks like a giant turtle shell or a Ferrero Rocher chocolate. I was mesmerized by this building as a little kid because it was the only building in that district that stood out from the rest. It had its own personality and never changed to fit in with the rests. Even to this day I go to that district and drive past it because it reminds me of the day that I decided to not be like everyone else despite looking different. That by being different I was able to shine on my own and should embrace it because people would learn to love me for those qualities. I do not recall ever having a bad experience with this building or it portray bad feelings to me. One thing that I can recall is recently learning that this building is bank; I was a little disappointed when I found this out, I expected it to be an art gallery at least.

Devon Tower Blog 1 Yadira Torres

This building is one of the new ones in downtown Oklahoma City as well as the tallest made from glass. It looks like a mirror which reflects the sun making the scenery that much brighter. I fell in love with this building because I makes me think that no matter what the day looks like the beauty of a day can be reflected through this building. That is how I felt when I first saw this building, I was having a bad day after a competition in my high school team and I had gone to the Myraid gardens to clear my mind. I had laid on the grass and looked up into the sky and seeing that building just left me breathless and I was able to forget my doubts of in life.

Recently I went to visit this building again to see it holy glory of reflection and I was sad to see that there were windows boarded up from the bottom floors, middle floors, and one at the very top. In a weird way it felt like someone had hurt the building and it was all patched up. It also brought bad feelings because a thought that maybe someone had fallen out of the windows to hurt themselves. This resulted in a very down moment for me because it was just a sad thought that came to me when looking at the building. Other that than that, this building has made a great impression in my life.

Matt Stone Post 1 – Tulsa’s BOK Center

BOK Center, Location: Tulsa OK, Architect: Pelli Clarke Pelli

For this blog I will discuss the importance of the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK to me. The BOK Center was opened in late August of 2008 and has been one of Tulsa’s most well known buildings in Tulsa since.

I was born and raised in Tulsa and was about 10 when I first heard about the construction of this building. Ever since the initial designs were shown to the public, it made me very excited to go see a concert or sporting event here and see what all the hype was about. One big reason I was ready to see this building finished was because it would be the new home of the Tulsa Oilers. Before this was constructed, the Oilers played in Tulsa convention center, which was outdated and too small for big events. My family and I would go see Oilers’ games about once a month and enjoyed it very much. Once we heard about a new facility being constructed for bigger events and to be the home of the Tulsa Oilers, we were ecstatic. Not only is the facility much bigger than the convention center, it was much cleaner and nicer. This meant that concerts and events could be held here that never could be held at the convention center.

The first event I went to see at the BOK was a concert by Fleetwood Mac, and I was not dissappointed, by the building or the concert. Ever since I have loved going there and took every oppurtunity I could to go to an event in the BOK Center, including to see the Oilers. It was and still is huge for publicity in Tulsa and helped revitalize the surrounding downtown area. This coupled with the Oneok baseball stadium that was constructed in later years has had major impacts on the revival of downtown Tulsa, which was continuously deteriorating and driving people to south Tulsa and to surrounding suburbs.

Blog 2 – Devon Tower – Tyler Parsons

The Devon Tower, formally known as the Devon Energy Center, is a 50 story skyscraper located in Oklahoma City. Finished in 2012, the Devon Tower marks the end of a transitionary in the downtown OKC area, in my opinion, changing from an area you had almost no reason to go to, to an area with many things to do, an NBA team, and a revitalized nightlife. This building may have a more simple design, but it is a true sign of growth in Oklahoma City and means a lot to me growing up here and watching the growth of my city with me. The interior of the Devon Tower is beautiful, and the top floor of the tower gives a view of OKC that otherwise is only able to be seen from a plane. The tower is lined with LEDs, allowing the color of it to be changed for any need. This building signifies years of growth in OKC, and means a lot to the people here.

Nathan Eki: Blog 3 – Lasater Residence by Lake Flato

Located in Forth Worth on a sloping site on a heavily wooded area the building beautifully blends into the landscape with massive walls of limestone with a balance of wood and glass. This building is truly remarkable, and it simply draws you in when considering the landscape around the house. The use glass allows the people inside to enjoy the vegetation around them creating a tranquil atmosphere that I can only imagine calms the mind immensely after a stressful day. Looking at this building I can only gaze in awe at the beauty and serenity.

Brent Simmons – Union Station – Blog Four

Union Station was a building I visited every time I went to DC because of the extensive cafeteria and various restaurants that surround it. Its exterior was very similar to a majority of the other buildings in the DC area. Also very similar to the rest of the DC area, the inside is mostly white with gold trim with a major amount of natural light seeping in. This building is the one that ties all my memories of our nations capital over the years. The first time I visited it was because I had gotten lost on the metro system when I was trying to head to the Woodley park zoo from Metro center (It was in the opposite direction) and decided to look around for a while.

Blog 1 – Patience S. Latting Northwest Library – Tyler Parsons

This building resides in Northwest Oklahoma City and is a very interesting sight to see. Opening in 2012, the Patience S. Latting was the first metropolitan library to open in OKC in over 30 years, and the architect behind it made sure to make it stick out. The building walls are almost all glass, with small metal beams to support the frame, and more metal beams coming off of the roof for an outer layer of support. The structures on the top of the library are meant to resemble oil derricks, an iconic symbol of the state. I have spent many hours inside this building studying, and it truly is a great environment. Many people have spoken about ‘healthy buildings’ in their presentations, and this is one of them. The library was even built with strong sustainability features that allowed it to become the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified library in the state. This library is right around the corner from my house and from the moment it was built, the distinct design of it has always stood out to me.
