Blog 2 – Andrew French – South Tulsa Baptist

My hometown church is another important building where I spent a lot of my time as a child and growing up in high school. I attended most Sundays and Wednesdays here and was even employed under them for about 3 years. I played on a church basketball team with my best friends in the church until my Sophmore year in high school for fun. I was also involved in many volunteer services put on by the church such as city-wide garages sales, working at the donation center, and even helping to repair needs around the church. A fun fact is when the church renovated and added the new commons and auditorium, I was allowed to walk through the construction zone because my sister’s soccer coach was the contractor. He taught me about all the things he was doing to make the auditorium bigger and sound better for the choir which I found very interesting.  Even though the construction was finished early in 2012 its designs are still modern looking in comparison with today’s ideas.

Nathan Eki: Blog 7 – 611 Park Ave

In a difficult part of my live, I once considered this home away from home my second home and the people inside the home my second family. For a prolonged period, my father worked overseas, and I would rarely see him, so weeks turned to months and months to a calendar year. My best friends’ family often offered for me to come over for dinner and sometimes just to hang out and play around because they understood no one was at home to take care of me. The house the family lived in was a 2-story house with 4 bedrooms, all upstairs, with a living room downstairs and a sauna in the garage. It was well decorated with its warm pastel wall colors and chocolate furniture but there was nothing especially about the home. It’s impact stays with me because of the family that resided inside it, so although they may have moved out, every time I pass the house, I feel nostalgia.

Blog 1- Philip Lyles- The Biz

Even though this is a very common building for this assignment, the biz library does have a lot of meaning to me. The meaning of this building represents hard work and results. My success in school has been in part due to this biz, because of the wonderful environment and the amazing things they offer to create the perfect study environment for me. The way that it affected me was it gave me a sense of belonging and calmness because the building is very well layed out and gives you a large sense of comfort right when you walk in.
My encounter and experience with this building are not always the best going in, because i know I am going in to study. However, my feelings leaving the library give me a feeling and sense of satisfaction because I had put in the work and got the results that I worked towards.

Cale Hayes – Blog 4 – Adams Center

My final personal blog that I will write about is Adams Center. In my opinion, this is one of the worst visually pleasing, and worst functional buildings on campus. On the exterior, it is divided into four sections, and it makes the mind wonder why it was designed in that way. It is very bland with the red brick, and it makes me appreciate the other buildings on campus much more. The interior is not much better. Once you walk into the lobby, it is very confusing on where you must go to get to your desired destination. The walls in the lobby are very dull as well.

This building is personal to me because this is where I lived during my first year of college. Not only was the lobby bland, but once you went up to the rooms, it got even worse. In the hallways in route to my room, it felt like I was in a prison. It was a very small hallway with no decoration, and low ceilings. The rooms were small, as most dorm rooms are. However, some of the rooms were not maintained well, so bad in fact that mold grew in some AC units, and made some of its residents very sick. Overall, this is a very confusing and dull building that I spent a majority of my freshman year of college.

Blog 1 – Andrew French – Childhood home

For my first building, I chose the old house that I lived in for 15 years in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. My parents moved there when I was 5 years old and moved out of it once I got into college. This house holds probably most of my childhood memories ranging from birthday parties to after Friday night football games in high school.

Growing up, it was surrounded by fields so my friends and I would use the fields for baseball and offroading on our bicycles. It also made it easier that most of my best friends lived right down the street so we could make it to each other in a couple of minutes. My house was the house that everyone would drive over to no matter what time it was and my front door was always open. My parents were very welcoming and the house didn’t look like much from the outside but you could see the real beauty on the inside.

It was the best environment to grow up in because my parents loved having everyone over at their house and didn’t mind opening their doors to more teenagers. It always felt like a comfortable place to relax and that’s what I loved most about it.

Blog4 – Taipei Arena – Pin Jung Chen

Taipei Arena is a multi-purpose stadium that accommodates countless major international events such as the 2018 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, one of the Billie Eilish upcoming tours and so on. Friends and family often gather together for ice-skating. It was built in 2001 and started to use in 2005. In mandarin, we name this building “huge egg” due to its special exterior. What catch people’s eyes is the extensive LED board, which represents the improvement of technology to a certain degree. Taipei Arena is important to me, since it is the place to relax and for recreation; the building filled with happy memories with my friends and family.

Cale Hayes – Blog 3 – South Canadian Valley Church of Christ

The next building on my blog is South Canadian Valley Church of Christ. On the exterior, it might not look like much. The first time that I visited this place, I didn’t think much of it. However, it is the interior that I truly love. When you first walk in, It feels like a small, homey area where members can converse before and after services. In the back of the building, there is an area for the people to eat lunch, or have any type of gathering they would like. At the front of the building, there is a grand auditorium for the purpose of people worshiping.

This place is very important to me because it is a place that I found a second home at. The moment I walked into the building, I knew it was going to love going, and continue to attend there for my entire college career. There have been so many memories made here, and I have met some amazing people at this building, so this will always have a lasting impact on me.

Nathan Eki: Blog 6 – Georgia Tech Krone Engineered Biosystems Building by Lake Flato

This building is a new model for research facilities that challenges the traditional laboratory design, by creating an open lab design that fosters engagement. THE LEED Engineered Biosystems Building’s six story narrow structure is a light footprint that maximizes view while simultaneously acting as a vibrant new entry to the campus making Atlanta’s northern midtown. The buildings showcases ecology in its use of wood finished interiors complimenting the research done on ecology. This building resembles the same layout as Gallogly Hall in its interior design but the beauty of the outside simply outshines our dull brick layered Gallogly. The open space compliments the ecological performance of the building extremely well.

Blog3 – National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall – Pin Jung Chen

National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a famous monument also located at the west part of Taipei. It was built in 1980 to memorize one of the presidents of Taiwan who passed away not long ago at that time. Moreover, one of the important protests that built the democracy that we have today was held in the plaza around the memorial hall. Hence, this is a particularly historical place for Taiwanese.

It is rare to have this size of plaza in Taipei, one of the top 10 crowded cities in the world. Whenever I visit the memorial hall, I feel like I could go back to the ancient time and see how hard they fight for the democracy, which reminds me to cherish the freedom that was hard to come by.

Blog2 – Daan Park Station – Pin Jung Chen

Daan Park Station is one of the MRT stations located at the west part of Taipei. In Taiwan, we call subway MRT, which stands for Mass Rapid Transit. Daan Park Station was built in 2013, locating on the red line which is the same line as Taipei 101. It has 6 exits in total, 2 of which is across the street; the others connect to Daan Park, which is next to the station.

Daan Park Station is one of my favorite spots in the city, for it helps modern people slow down their pace and observe surroundings. What special is it has a garden that concaves downward and has a small waterfall dropping down around the area, which makes the whole place full of energy.
