Payton Torres, Bizzell Memorial Library, Blog Post 1

This is the Bizzell Memorial Library. The students that go to the University of Oklahoma refer to this building as the “Biz” when talking about it. The Biz is a five story brick structure located in the center of OU’s campus. The biz was built in 1927 and it is the main place on campus OU graduate and undergraduate students go to study or do homework. The first time I saw the biz I was so surprised with how unique looking it was. The design of the building is very intricate makes me feel joyful to look at and admire. The biz is a special place in my eyes because I am studying at the biz at least three times every week. The biz makes me feel relaxed and calm when I am doing homework or studying for a test. The one thing I like about the biz the most is that there are so many different places in the biz that you can go to depending on what work you need to complete that day. One spot in the biz you can go to is called the “bookmark”. The bookmark is the place where you can study and talk at the same time, which is really useful when working on a group project. On the contrast, the “Great Reading Room” is a room at the biz where you can go to study in silence, without any distractions. The biz gives off great energy and is a building I will never forget.

Gunner Harris- Blog One (Post 3) The Biltmore Estate

The Biltmore mansion in North Carolina was one of the most amazing buildings I have ever seen. Just the shear size and attention to detail of the project was impressive. The massive house and grounds look like something you would see in Europe. My favorite thing about the Biltmore is how it is like a giant time capsule of how grand architecture use to be. I loved just being on the grounds of the Biltmore it almost felt like you were transported back to a different time and place.

Nathan Eki: Blog 8 – Pearl Brewery Redevelopment by Lake Flato

Who doesn’t love beer? This building was repurposed for the use of turning it into a vibrant development. Reusing old garage doors with large framed windows and reusing beer storage and viola a perfect space to a little drinking. With 18 restaurants and bars occurring over 100,000 square feet along with a amphitheater overlooking the Riverwalk with office and banquet space, it is an extremely inviting area for drinking, socializing and enjoying indoor or outdoor cooking.

Blog 4 – Andrew French – Kirkland Soccer Complex

For my final choice, I decided to pick the complex that was built for my senior year high school soccer team. I was finished being built a year after I graduated but I’ve played on it many times already. Before we graduated, our new coaches showed us pictures of the sketches and asked us our ideas, so we came up with ideas for the field that we got to change. We only got to play one game on that field because they couldn’t let us use it for playoffs. We actually had our reception there, after we won the State Championship and were able to put the trophy in the case as the first trophy that we won for the complex. Since it’s been built, it has been used for the Boys’ and Girls’ teams for almost 3 years now and the renovations still look like they were just finished building and I bet it will stay that way for a while with the way they built it.

Gunner Harris- blog one (post two) Family Lake House

My family has had our lake house on Grand Lake since before I was born. This house reminds me of all of the amazing memories that I have created with my family up there. I have spent every summer there, and look forward to it all year. Just seeing the house always brings up a peaceful and sentimental  feeling for me. Whenever I see it, I feel like I can automatically relax. The house has acted as a place of peace to escape from the chaos of everyday life.

Ryan Hernandez – Blog 4 – Walker Tower

Living here freshman year was an interesting time. My roommate and I knew each other from high school so thankfully we got along fine. Although the dorms themselves are pretty bad to live in, we had a good time and made a lot of memories. The best thing about the dorms was the meal plan and the worst thing was the size of the rooms for two people.

Daniel Lee-(Physical Science Center)-Blog #3

The image above, depicts the exterior of the Physical Science Center. I decided to choose this building, because it inevitability   brings me back to my freshman/sophomore year. I have submitted multiple late assignments, preformed poorly on exams, and really had a tough time transitioning into college, in this building. Hence, this building, in my opinion, resembles a period of hardships and growth. However, despite the negative attributes of this building, the PSC, architecturally, is an ultimate safe haven. This building, was constructed to withstand F4/F5 tornados! In addition, the interior is very modern and provides a great learning environment.

Gunner Harris – Blog One (Post One) – My First Apartment

After a long terrible year of living in the dorms I was ready to move into my first apartment in August of 2017. The building has just been completed and me and my roommates would be the first ones to live in our apartment. I remember walking in the front door on move in day and feeling so excited and grown up. For me the building meant a new chapter of my life and a place that would be filled with friends and memories. I have lived here for three years now and it has been nothing but fun. I am actually kind of sad about when I have to move out this August, but the building will always hold a special place in my heart.

Blog 3 – Andrew French – Broken Arrow High School

My high school is the next building or buildings I chose because I had to spend every day there. During the three years, I was there in school, they were always constructing and renovating different buildings to try and accommodate all the students. Being involved in the spirit squad, leadership, and student council, I spent many days at the school aside from being there for school.

I loved my high school except for the fact that all of the different buildings were connected so during storms, cold weather, or Oklahoma’s always changing weather, it was very hard to dress for the weather. The buildings were also separated across the campus from each other so when moving down to Norman, it wasn’t very hard to adapt to walking far from building to building.

Blog 2- Philip Lyles- The National Archive

The National Archive building is one of my favorite architectural works of art ever done. My family and I visited Washington D.C. for the first time in my life this past summer, and all of these buildings could be on this list as they all have beautiful architectural taste to them. The meaning of this building to me really just represents one word, “history”. The style of the material of the building shows how old it is, the old style of the pillars makes it look like a powerful and important building, and the mere size of it is astonishing as well. The way it affected me was it really made me appreciate how well the architecture was associated with the building, and the detail of the entire building.
The encounter that I had when I first visited this building was astonishing. As it was the first of the major building in D.C. that I visited, the large size and detail of the building caught me off guard almost. My thoughts and feelings towards this experience of visiting the national archive were happiness and satisfaction. I thought it was nice to be able to experience a very rare and distinct type of architecture and to study and understand the meanings behind this wonderful piece of architecture.
