E. Fay Jones- Pinecote Pavillion- Murphy Beckham Blog 8

The Pinecote Pavillion, which is located at the Crosby Arboretum in Picayune Mississippi, differs from the other landmarks created by E. Fay Jones that I have discussed. Instead of creating a church-type building, Jones decided to attempt to create a simple gathering building. People do not travel here to get married, but simply to discuss important things, socially gather, and use it as a starting point for nature walks as it is built in a beautiful area. All wood is stained and the metal painted in colors that harmonize with the earth and plants.

E. Fay Jones- Anthony Chapel- Murphy Beckham Blog 7

The Anthony Chapel is very similar to the other works of E. Fay Jones in both the ideology, the structure of the building, and the location and use. It is located in the Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the same state and general area his other chapels I have mentioned are located. However, this particular chapel varies from his others in that it was built by his partner, Maurice Jennings.

The Thorncrown Chaple is located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the same state that E. Fay Jones is cited to have been born and raised. It is used as a church building and is a prominent one. It was included in Budget Travels’ 12 most beautiful churches list. It was built in 1980. The American Institute of Architects honored the Thorncrown Chapel with its 25-year award in 2006.

MURPHY BECKHAM- BLOG 4- BIZZELL LIBRARY

Being an OU student for the entire duration of my college career, naturally, I have spent countless hours in this library building. Whether I am studying for a big test with some friends or just doing some homework between classes, the OU library is a hub for me. I have learned that it is also vital to my academic success, as the more time I spend here, the better I seem to do in my classes.

The Biz is one of the main reasons I chose to attend the University of Oklahoma in the first place, as it really stuck out to me on my tour as a remarkable building both in size, history, and beauty. It is one of the oldest buildings on campus and easily the most notorious other than the football stadium. I very much enjoy being able to use it and its amenities on a frequent basis.

MURPHY BECKHAM- BLOG 3- THE VILLAGE CHURCH

The Village Church is the church that I grew up going to and have been attending for the majority of my life. I attend the location in Flower Mound which is led by lead pastor Matt Chandler, a well-known pastor not only in the state but nationwide. He and worship leader Michael Bleeker had a large impact on my life solely because they worked in this building and I got to experience them on a weekly basis here. I enjoyed coming here and made great memories with friends and family when I was in this church.

While I have been attending The Village for quite some time, we haven’t always gone to the same building every week. The church moved locations to expand and be more centralized in the town, and it worked out well. I have much greater memories in this church building due to time spent inside and around it as well as the recency bias of attending it for the latter years of my life so far.

MURPHY BECKHAM- BLOG 2- LIFETIME FITNESS

Lifetime Fitness is a gym that has many locations nationwide, but the one that has had an enormous impact on my life is the one located in Flower Mound, Texas. This building was located about 5 minutes from my house in a fairly central spot in the town, so it was heavily utilized by the citizens. My friends and I spent hours and sometimes days at a time in this Lifetime whether we were working out, playing basketball, or swimming, we always found ways to make use of our time there.

I very much enjoyed coming to this building and it provided me some great memories and useful skills. I still attend this same Lifetime when I am home for any reason, and while some things inside have changed such as layout or design, it is still the same building I spent all those hours in. I am grateful to have a place like this that I am comfortable and am able to enjoy my time.

MURPHY BECKHAM- BLOG 1- AMERICAN AIRLINES CENTER

I first visited the American Airlines Center (AAC) when I attended my first Dallas Mavericks game back in 2009. Over the years I have been to almost 100 games and have had more than enough time to study and appreciate the building that brings so many fans joy. It is located in Victory Park in Dallas, Texas, and is home to not only the Mavericks but the NHL’s Dallas Stars, as well as functioning as a hub for many concert experiences.

The arena has three levels of seats, the lower bowl, platinum, and the upper bowl. These seats seem like a lot when you see the arena empty, but the AAC manages to sell out almost every event it hosts, even being comprised of almost an astounding 19,000 seats. There are entrances on every side of the building, making it easy to manage your way around the arena and not get lost. This building has meant more to me than I even realize usually, however, I am thankful that it has been a constant in my life and now I am able to share my experiences and knowledge about it to others.
