Blog 3 Justin Ballou- Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey. Definitely one of the most beautiful and stunning buildings I have ever seen in my life. It was originally built as a Roman Catholic church and is now of the Church of England denomination. Therefore, it has always been a place of worship and that is shown through its architecture inside and outside. Nearly since its foundation, it has also been a place of royal events such as coronations, weddings, and also burials.

First encountering this building was amazing. At the time, I had an idea of the importance of the building, but being there I understood that this building is more than that to them. While yes it is a place of worship, it is also a source of much of their history. The building has stood there for almost all of England’s time and with that, it represents their culture and people. By the grace of God, I was able to attend a church service there and shamefully I will admit the monotone music nulled me to sleep at one point. However, experiencing the building and the way they worship left an impact on how I view their religion. It was truly a spectacular experience of awe from the handiwork and details of the architecture and stained glass to the new experiences that their service gave me.

Blog 2 Justin Ballou- Cinderella’s Castle

Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World. One of the most iconic buildings in the world. It’s meaning is purely entertainment, sentiment, nostalgia, and to inspire people to live and feel happy.

I have been to Disney World five times, and every time I walk into the sea of people and see this building, I feel happy. For me, it is an automatic feeling that I get when I see this building or its logo. A feeling placed and developed in me from all the Disney movies, shows, and marketing. The castle is almost synonymous with happiness or good feelings. I remember the first time I saw the castle. I was 8 years old, and I watched something Disney almost every day of my life. Seeing the castle for the first time was a moment I will not forget. I was pulling on my mom’s arm in awe and excitement of what I was actually seeing. The most recent time was with my father for the Orange Bowl. The castle still gives me those feelings of joy. Now, I feel more the sentimental feelings of my past.

Blog 1 Justin Ballou Temple of Concordia

Image result for valley of the temples sicily

This is the Temple of Concordia in Agrigento, Sicily. It was originally meant as a place of worship for the Greeks. Believed to worship the Greek goddess Harmonia. Later, used as a place of worship to the Roman goddess Concordia. Then, it was converted to a Christian basilica to honor the Christian disciples Peter and Paul. Finally, it was believed to be abandoned at one time and eventually made a historical site.

As a Christian man, visiting the Valley of the Temples was an incredible experience of all kinds of history. Truly, I was blown away by actually getting to see a building from one of the ancient empires. I did not even know it had a Christian story to it as well. Learning about this temple and the area was incredible to hear. Walking through the tour and hearing how old the temples were and their individual history was just too cool. Being in the presence of an area that Christian disciples, Greeks, Romans, and many other historical groups, was surreal. Not to mention the land that the temples were on was absolutely beautiful.

Manh Nguyen-Michigan stadium, Detroit-blog 4

I had the chance to visit the Michigan stadium in Detroit, Michigan two years ago. I went there to watch a soccer match between Manchester United and Liverpool. It was my first time being in such a big stadium, pretty much all the seats were occupied and were covered with the red color of the two teams. The building is huge and tall, it has many gates and at each gate, there are shops and stores to sell food, souvenirs. I love stadiums and want to visit all the famous stadiums in the world in the future.

Manh Nguyen-my uncles house-blog post 3

One of the places that I have some bad memories of is my uncle’s house. He lives in another city far from my house and I didn’t have many chances to visit his house. I first visited him when I was 6 or 7 years old, I remembered when I first got there, I cried alot for no reason, he is very nice and all, i didnt know why I just can’t like him and his house. It’s an old style house with yellow wall, the gate is rusted and it gave me the cold, unsafe feeling.

An Nguyen-chemistry building-Blog Post 4

This is the chemistry building of The University of Oklahoma. This was the worst and ugliest building at OU in my opinion. It look really old, not old in the good way like most of the buildings at OU, this building looks like it is never been maintained or repaired ever. Most of things was made out of steel such as stair, the trails, windows. These steel are rusted and show the ugly reddish color that you don’t want to touch. The space inside was designed very confusing people who first walk in. The furnitures inside are old and rusted as well. Every time I sat on the chair it makes the sound like it is about to collapse and those steel would stabbed on my ass. Every time I walk by this building, it remind me of the time that I was taking Physical Chemistry Lab. It was a hard class by I made it through alive. I hope for class that I have to take in the future, they would not be in this building.

An Nguyen- St John Catholic Church-blog post 3

This is the church that i attend Sunday mass for every week. St. John was a one room building with a bell tower with a capacity of around 150 people. It is located in Edmond. There is a large kitchen, common area, child facility, meeting space and offices for clergy and staff. There are 2 floor in the church, the upper floor is for old people that cant walk and the lower floor for younger guests and 1 room that has noise isolation for kids. This church is very welcome, the staff are super friendly. It feels like a family here. The father is very funny who would keep you awake during church.

Manh Nguyen-OCCC-blog post 2

Oklahoma city community college was the first college I attended before transfer to OU. I studied there for two years and had some good memories. I Remembered I was a little worried when I first go there, but the people and professors were very nice, they made me feel better. I met my friends over there and we did stupid things together. Somehow I always feel nostalgic whenever I think about it. It’s a good place to study and make friends.

An Nguyen- OCCC- Blog Post 2

This building is building of engineer department at OCCC. This building has very straight and long hall inside, and there are glass wall on both side of the hall which make the hall very bright and open from the outside. This was the place that I spent the most time when I was in OCCC. I like it because it is very quiet here, people usually enter the school by the main entrance and do not know about this place. There is a big restroom right at the entrance, the parking lot always have space. This is the place that I feel relax and enjoy the most. I studied here, ate here. This place is also safest place in OCCC because there is a police department right next to this building and this is the only way that officer enter the main campus, they usually hang out here too. Every it rains, it remind me of the time that I was still in OCCC, it was soo convenient that you can park my car right in-front of the door and walk right in the building.

An Nguyen- Pho Seven- Blog Post 1

This is the picture of the internal space of the Pho restaurant in Southside OKC that I like the most. This building is located at the corner of a street with very open parking space This building small but have reasonable space inside. The red color of the wall make it feel really warm inside. Every time I think about this place, it reminds me of the time when I first came to the US. it was very cold winter time and this is the place that I would come to eat everyday. The people here are mostly Vietnamese, so this place also make me feel like I am actually in the restaurant in Vietnam
